About Kaizen Judo
Building better athletes, stronger character, and a community that grows together.
Our Story
Kaizen Judo was founded by National Champion Angela Woosley and husband Josh Woosley with the help of Randori Resources with a clear mission: build a dojo where every student, from age 4 to adult, can grow at their own pace in a safe, structured environment.
The name Kaizen (改善) comes from the Japanese philosophy of continuous improvement. It captures everything we believe about martial arts: progress is built one practice at a time, small gains compound into real transformation, and the pursuit of getting better never ends.
Rooted in traditional judo values (respect, discipline, and mutual benefit), our dojo in Fuquay-Varina, NC is a place where competitive athletes train alongside first-timers, where parents watch their kids develop confidence on the mat, and where coaches continue learning right alongside their students.
Our Approach: A Growth Environment
We don't just teach techniques. We build an environment where people get better. Here's what that looks like:
Evidence-Based Curriculum
Our Kuzushi Framework curriculum provides structured, progressive skill development, not random techniques. Students always know what to work on next and why it matters.
Growth Over Trophies
Every student is measured against their own progress. Competition is a tool for development, not the only metric that counts. Whether you compete or not, you'll grow.
Safety-First Culture
Proper ukemi (falling), controlled randori, age-appropriate training, and low student-to-instructor ratios. We take safety seriously so students can train with confidence.
Inclusive Community
Ages 4 to adult. First-timers to competitors. Families training together. Our mat is open to everyone willing to put in the work.
Continuous Improvement
Our coaches train alongside students, attend clinics, study video, and refine the curriculum. The kaizen mindset isn't just for students; it's how we run the entire program.
